Google Maps switched from NAVTEQ to Tele Atlas for its map data in North America. However, there might be some confusion on this topic. Despite this change, Tele Atlas has not become the unique map data provider to Google. Google did not switch all its map purchasing to Tele Atlas; the Mountain View company continues to rely on many other providers throughout the world: AND, Europa Technologies, Basarsoft (Turkey), MapIT (Australia), Zenrin (Asia), etc.
Beginning of August GPS Business News heard that Magellan’s CEO Nelson Chan might have left the company. Then this news was confirmed from other sources adding that Christian Bubenheim, who was vice president Product Marketing, had left the company too. This fall French mapping Institute IGN is refreshing its line of “Evadeo” crossover PNDs with four new models: Evadeo M20 (€199), M30 (€249), X50 (€399) and X60 (€449).
