L’éditeur français de logiciels vient de lancer l’acquisition de l’entreprise canadienne Gemcom Software International, société spécialisée dans la modélisation en 3D pour le secteur minier.
«la complémentarité avec notre métier est totale. Les grands clients de Gemcom, dont les produits vont être rebaptisés Geovia, pourraient être intéressés par nos autres outils de modélisation», se félicite Bernard Charlès, le directeur général de Dassault Systèmes. Enfin, les logiciels de la société de Vancouver vont aider l’éditeur français à modéliser la planète, «avec une précision de 30 cm, ce qui sera beaucoup plus précis qu’avec Google Earth», prévient le directeur général.

Google map maker is now available in more than 160 countries. However, the maps created by google can be seen only in google map maker, not yet available in google maps.
Comparing to OpenStreetMap, the maps created by google are owned intellectually by google.
The GMapCreator is a freeware application designed to make thematic mapping using Google Maps simpler. The application takes a shapefile containing geographic areas linked with attributes and automatically generates a working Google Maps website from the data. It does this by pre-creating all the necessary files and saving them into a directory. Publishing the map on the web is then just a matter of copying files onto a web server, allowing Google Maps to be used with the majority of ISPs.
